PARKERSBURG - Volunteers will start this morning removing the bleacher seats and rails to store them for the upcoming reconstruction of Stadium Field.
The Stadium Committee is hoping a large turnout of current Parkersburg High School students as well as adults will help with this project. Former football, soccer and track athletes of PHS have been sought to help remove the seats and railings so they can be stored so demolition and removal of the stands can begin on April 15.
Lori Lowers, PHS athletics director, said from 50 to 100 volunteers are expected to help today.

Work is to start at 8 a.m.
Earlier this year, the board of education approved $700,000 to help fund $3 million in renovation costs. The Stadium Committee has $100,000 on hand and plans to secure a $400,000 loan. The rest of the money will be generated through fundraising efforts.
Sue Woodward, assistant superintendent of Wood County Schools, said the board has the money for demolition and is moving to proceed.
The reconstruction project is being tailored to be finished in time for football season.
Completion date for the home stands is tentatively set for Aug. 22.
The Big Red football season opener was to have been a home game on Aug. 30 with Warren Local but that game has tentatively been changed to an away contest, according to the team's website.
