Carl Ray Van Sickle, 82, of the Evergreen Hills community, Cottageville, W.Va., passed away April 1, 2013, in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, following an extended illness.
He was born June 22, 1930, in Parkersburg, a son of the late Gurney and Ina (Wharton) Van Sickle. His son, Stephen Van Sickle, also preceded him in death.
He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Army with 30 years of service, having served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War; he was a Bronze Star recipient. He was also a retired planner from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation, and he attended the Ripley Baptist Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Blondena Elaine (Dixon) Van Sickle; daughters, Debbie and Lisa; five grandchildren, and a sister, Vivian Stanley of Fairmont, W.Va.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, W.Va., with Pastor Rick Perrine officiating. Burial will be in the Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville, with military honors by American Legion Post #107, Ripley. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
