Robey S. O'Brien, 95, of Spencer, W.Va., passed away on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Eldercare of Ripley in Ripley, W.Va.
He was born April 10, 1917, at Linden, W.Va., a son of the late James and Crecy Hamrick O'Brien. He was a former employee of the City of Spencer Water Department, a member of the Steele Hollow Community Church, and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, where he received the Purple Heart.
He is survived by two step-daughters, Farilene Smith of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Phyllis O'Brien of Spencer; a sister, Katie Keaton of Deland, Fla.; a brother, James O'Brien of Exeter, N.H.; 18 step-grandchildren; and several step-great and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah O'Brien; three sisters; and five brothers.
Services will be held 2 p.m. today at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, with Rev. Jackie Roberts officiating, and military honors being done at the funeral home as well. Burial will be in the Young Cemetery near Linden. Visiting is two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
