VIENNA - Bright colors will be sure to greet patrons looking for a frozen treat at a new yogurt shop in Vienna.
Stepping into the Yo Kool Frozen Yogurt shop at 710 1/2 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, in the Kmart shopping plaza, customers will be greeted with a bright, welcoming atmosphere fit with a modern design. The decorations range from flower chandeliers to the retro green and purple chairs where customers can relax and enjoy their desserts.
The shop officially opened in December 2012.
Employee Taylor Clark stands behind the Yo Kool counter to greet customers.
The frozen yogurt is self-serve with patrons able to chose from 12 flavors at one time on six machines, said manager Sophia Yang. The shop charges based on a scale system, meaning the weight of the treat determines the price.
Yang and her husband, Steven, dreamed of operating a yogurt shop for some time, with their families both in the restaurant business. Yang is originally from Richmond, Va., and moved to West Virginia after getting married, she said.
"We like that it's a mix up (of) color," Yang said of her shop.
"It's a bright environment when people show up it's a cheerful thing."
The restaurant is open during the week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays until 10 p.m., but Yang said those hours will each extend one hour in the summer.
The shop always has at least one nondairy, sorbet, option for those with allergies to the frozen treat.
Every Monday the business is running a special that includes two small size cups of ice cream and toppings, Yang said.
The restaurant offers free Wi-Fi and sells keychains, Yang said.
There are about three workers on a daily basis, and Yang said she is always around to help make sure things are running smoothly.
"It's always been our dream to get a yogurt shop," she said of the couple.
