Leona Virginia Cowan Ward, 92, of Grantsville, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Worthington Nursing Home in Parkersburg, W.Va.
She was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Harrisville, W.Va., the daughter of the late George and Augusta Cowan. She worked at Calhoun General Hospital until retirement.
She is survived by her four children, Brenda Sue Ward of Parkersburg, W.Va., Linda Lou Sampson (Willard) of St. Marys, W.Va., Virginia Busch (Fred) of Petroleum, W.Va., and Gale E. Ward (Debra) of Dade City, Fla.; one brother, Omar Cowan of Florida; one sister, Oma Jean Wilson of Massillon, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; special friend, Dale Rupert of Grantsville, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by both her parents; her husband, Ai Ward; two sons, Melvin Ward and Jack Cowan; six brothers, Lawrence, Olin, Emery, George Jr., Dennis and Cleo Cowan; and two sisters, Gladys and Waneta.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Matheny Whited Funeral Home of Elizabeth, W.Va., with the Rev Dwight Brohard officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Friday until time of service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at K of P Cemetery of Elizabeth, W.Va.
