Helen J. "Nanny" Postelwaite, 82, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013, at Heartland in Marietta, Ohio.

She was born July 31, 1930, in Gay, W.Va., a daughter of the late Earl and Blanche Houchen. She married James R. Postelwaite on July 5,, 1949.

He preceded her in death on April 21, 2011. They had been married for 61 years.

She was a retired beautician, having last worked at the JC Penney Styling salon. She had also worked at Dils Department Store. She graduated from Parkersburg High School and Valley Beauty School.

She was a long time member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Parkersburg. She assisted with Catholicism (RCIA) classes, having been a sponsor to those wishing to join the church.

She was an excellent cook. She enjoyed flowers, crocheting, quilting, and bird watching. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. From April 2011 until July 2012, she had lived in Marietta with her oldest granddaughter, Michelle, and her partner, Ed. While with Michelle, she loved going to Wal-Mart and eating out. She also loved her dogs: Penny, Reggie, Maggie, and Molly. They will continue to reside with and be cared for by Michelle and Ed, as per her wishes.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (David) Parker of Marietta and Debra (Mark) Wells of Parkersburg; her grandchildren, Michelle Norman (Ed Moon) of Marietta, Kim (Jim) Harmon of North Carolina, Kelly (Stuart) Gobel of Parkersburg, Brooke (Sam) Helms of North Carolina; stepgranddaughter, Samantha (Nick) Bradley of Parkersburg; her stepgreat-grandchildren, Olivia Dawson, Katelin and Garrett Harmon, Colten and Lila Helms; stepgreat-grandchildren, Lucy and Luke Gradley; her niece, Joanna Dee Adkins; great niece, Brittany Stanley; a special sister-in-law, Marsha (Bob) Callahan of Florida, and brother-in-law, Johnny Woodyard of Indiana.

In additiion to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and sister, Regina Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her rescue dog, Molly in Dec. 2012.

The family would like to thank Drs. Bob-Paul (Erdelyi) and Eva Giro; along with their staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital. The family would also like to thank the staff at Emeritus of Marietta and Heartland of Marietta. The excellent care and compassion these individuals provided was greatly appreciated.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg. Deacon Doug Deem will officiate and entombment will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
