Adrian Lowell McCoy, 73, of Millwood, W.Va., passed away March 24, 2013, at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, following an extended illness.
He was born Feb. 20, 1940, in Ravenswood, W.Va., a son of the late John Winfield and Ursie Isabelle (Ankrum) McCoy. He was a graduate of Ravenswood High School, and attended West Virginia Institute of Technology, and West Virginia State College. He was a United States Army veteran and a retired analyst from the reduction technical department at Century Aluminum, and member of United Steelworkers Union, Local 5668. He was a member and third generation Sunday school superintendent of the Flatwoods United Methodist Church. He enjoyed boating and nature and was an avid gardener. He planted flowers on many properties and built several boat docks on the Ohio River and Mill Creek over the years. He loved spending time with his family and was a very generous person, always willing to assist those in need, and was affectionately known for his personal moniker, "Geepers Socks."
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda Evelyn (Shook) McCoy; son, Todd Adrian McCoy and his wife Eugenia of Ravenswood; daughter, Susan Elaine Duncan and her husband Aaron of Athens, Ohio; grandchildren, Cory Parsons, Delana McCoy, Luke Duncan, Elias Duncan and Judah Duncan; brother, Eldon (Loretta) McCoy of Murraysville; and sister, Joyce (Lewis) Stephens of Cottageville.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Ravenswood, W.Va., with Pastor Ted Osgood officiating. Burial will follow in the Flatwoods Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Donations are preferred to the Flatwoods Cemetery.
