Parkersburg News and Sentinel

Carol Elizabeth Alexander, 99, of Parkersburg, passed away on March 22, 2013, at her residence, under the loving care of her family.

She was born in Wood County, W.Va., on May 6, 1913, the daughter of the late Elmer and Onia Moncrief Harper.

Carol moved to Michigan, where she had owned and operated Beauty Craft Salon for many years. In retirement, she and her late husband, Roland, enjoyed traveling, going to Europe and South America. They spent winters in Florida and then moved there in 2003, where she enjoyed the warm weather and bingo. They moved to Parkersburg in 2010 to be close to family due to health reasons.

Carol is survived by her daughter, Naomi Dixon of Parkersburg; 11 grandchildren including James Dixon IV, Steve Dixon (Carol) and Sue Christman (Troy); and several great-grandchildren including Joe Dixon (Julia).

In addition to her parents and her late husband Roland, Carol was preceded in death by her son, Gilbert Lemon; one grandson and one granddaughter; and brothers and sisters, Georgie Willis, Russell Harper, Howard Harper, Dorothy Hotchkis and Donald Harper.

Following Carol's request, she will be placed by her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Myrtle Martinelli, Jessie Martinelli and Amedisys Hospice for the special care they have given Carol and the family.
