PARKERSBURG - The Parkersburg Board of Zoning Appeals granted two appeals Wednesday for area businesses.
Lydia White, assistant zoning administrator for the city, said two of the board's five members were absent at Wednesday's meeting, and one of three items on the agenda was removed at the request of the applicant.
By a 3-0 vote, the board granted a variance allowing the operation of video lottery machines at The 5th Street Pub at 322 Fifth St. The appeal was requested by David Naylor and pub owner O.B. Epling.
White said the request had previously been denied because the area was not zoned for the machines.
"If it is not permitted, they have to go to the Board of Zoning Appeals for a variance," she said.
Also by a 3-0 vote, a conditional use was granted to sell beer at a carry-out facility at 719 Camden Ave. The applicant and owner, James S. Mercer, submitted the request. White said that store is not yet open.
One request for video lottery machines at 1415 Garfield Ave. was withdrawn prior to the meeting. The applicant was listed as Deandre Terrell Bradley and the owner as Atlas Towing Co.
"Their attorney withdrew the request," White said. "We don't ask why; they just make the request or withdraw it."
The Board of Zoning appeals meets at 6:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Municipal Building.
