Sammy L. Wiley, 70, of McDonough, Ga., formerly of Newport, Ohio, passed away, March 18, 2013.

He was born March 31, 1942 in Maxwell, Pleasants County, a son of the late J. D. "Bud" and Sylvia Haddox Wiley. He was a 1960 graduate of St. Marys High School. He was the recipient of the Benedeum Scholarship to attend Marietta College, where he played second base for the Pioneer baseball team for four years. He was a 1964 graduate of Marietta College, with a B.S. Degree in Chemical Engineering. He had worked 31 years for Halliburton as a petroleum engineer, and he worked all over the United States and the world.

During his early years, he built an oil derrick replica of the one at Volcano, W.Va. He was a member of St. Marys Elks Lodge 1701, where he had been a trustee, and Exalted Ruler in 1995-1996. He was SMHS Alumnus of the Year in 1979, and was associated with 4-H and was a pin-wearer and a 4-H All-Star.

He was beloved husband to his wife, Anna (Shirley) Wiley; father to sons, Darrell D. (Jennifer) Wiley of McDonough, Ga. and Sammy L. Wiley II of Columbus, Ohio; grandfather to five grandchildren, great grandfather to one great grandchild, brother to sister, Janet (Terry) Snyder of St. Marys, uncle to several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Wiley. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Services will be held Sunday, March 24, at 1 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Pastor Roy Bennett officiating. Interment will be in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from noon-1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. There will be an Elks Memorial Service Saturday, March 23, at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
