PARKERSBURG - Parkersburg City Council will hold an informational meeting tonight for political bodies to review Robert's Rules of Order for governing public meetings.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. in council chambers on the second floor of the Parkersburg Municipal Building. The session will last 60-90 minutes and is free and open to the public.
Councilman John Rockhold said the session will be led by John Sorrenti of the West Virginia State Auditor's Office. Rockhold said local officials met Sorrenti during an information session last year at a West Virginia Municipal League training event.
"I asked how much would it cost to bring him to Parkersburg to speak, and he said 'nothing.' It is part of the services offered by the State Auditor's Office," Rockhold said.
Robert's Rules of Order are a set of rules that govern how public meetings should be conducted. Rockhold said Sorrenti will help clarify many of the questions surround Robert's Rules, such as the terminology used during a meeting, how to make a motion and how to handle many of the questions that can arise during a meeting.
"It's a free session; it's about something everyone uses," Rockhold said.
Rockhold said local political officials and bodies were invited to attend.
"We have invited the county, Vienna, Williamstown, North Hills and all of the committees that have been working in Parkersburg," he said. "It's open to anybody who wants to attend."
