Gene M. Youngblood, 84, of Parkersburg, died March 16, 2013, at the Worthington Manor.
He was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Ft. Worth, Texas, a son of the late Marvin E. and Bernice Baines Youngblood.
Gene retired from E.I. DuPont as a chemical engineer after many years of service, and was a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of American as a Scout Master for Troop 92, then served the Scouts in various capacities and also received the Silver Beaver Award on April 20, 1991. He was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church, where he was active in the New Hope Choir. He also enjoyed whitewater rafting with his wife for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Hartshorn Youngblood; two sons, David L. (Jill) Youngblood of Parkersburg and Robert K. (Sallie) Youngblood of Parkersburg; three grandchildren, Stephen Youngblood, Krysta L. (David) Oxley and Michael D. (Jeni) Youngblood; one brother, James L. (Katie) Youngblood of Rogers, Ark.; and one sister, "Patsy" (Keefer) Welch of North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack E. Youngblood.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. today at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gene's memory to the Boys Scouts of America, Allohak Council 618, 1340 Juliana St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
