VIENNA - Blennerhassett Boy Scouts of America held its District Awards for 2012 on March 12 at the Vienna Baptist Church.
Awards given out were:
The Old Timer's Award: To recognize an individual who has been in Scouting for at least 20 years, serving in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts or district. Receiving this award was Louise Bennett.

Cub Scout/Boy Scout/Crew Spirit Award: For the adult in either Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts who has actively and significantly contributed to the programs of Scouting. Receiving this award were Bruce and Diana Boston for Cub Scouts and Nick Mehl for Boy Scouts.
Whispering Oak Award: For any person who has put an extra effort in to assist with the Scouting program who is not a registered leader. This could be a teacher, parent, friend, minister, etc. Receiving this award was Shelly McIntyre.
Charlie Akers Scouting Pride Award: One award annually given to any Cub, Boy, Adventuring or district Scout, who has displayed their outstanding pride of the Boy Scouting program by properly wearing the appropriate uniform to Unit meetings, district meetings and Council events. Receiving this award was Jim Sharp.
Tex Adams Scouting Skills Award: This is an annual award given to any Cub, Boy, Adventuring or district Scout, who has demonstrated and taught Scouting or outdoor skills to the youth of their program. Receiving this award was Darrel Ballengee.
Shorty Matheny Granite Award: This is an annual award given to any Cub, Boy, Adventuring or district Scout, who displays their strong belief in the principles of the Scouting program. Like a granite foundation stone, this individual has demonstrated that service to youth and Scouting programs are part of their life by consistently supporting them. Receiving this award was Terry Hickle.
Davis Anderson Memorial Award: This award is given for outstanding service to in the district. Receiving this award was the OA Team.
District Award of Merit: This is the highest award that a district can bestow. It is given to a person who has been outstanding and above all others in their work for Scouting. Their service will be demonstrated by the training awards, years of service, positions held in Scouting and involvement on the community level. Receiving this award were Nick Mehl, Bruce Boston and Don Wise.
