NEW MARTINSVILLE -Mark Winters became the all-time leading scorer in Magnolia High School history here Thursday night, tallying 21 points as Magnolia won for the 21st time, blasting visiting Clay-Battelle, 96-71, in a Region I contest.

With the victory, the Blue Eagles (21-4) will meet Wheeling Central at 1 p.m. Wednesday in an opening-round Class A state tournament game at the Charleston Civic Center.

Winters broke Ted Talkington's school record of 2,024 points in the second quarter.

Magnolia left no doubt, scoring 30-first quarter points to take a 17-point lead after eight minutes of play and never allowed the Cee-Bees to cut the margin to single digits.

The Blue Eagles had three players hit the 20-mark as Winters was joined by Preston Boswell with a game-high 23 and Stephen Rogalski with 20. Zach Willhoite had 17 for coach Dave Tallman's team.

Clay-Battelle was led by Logan Opyoke with 21 and Cannon Brommage with 17.
