Kermit E. Woodyard, 85, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his residence.
He was born July 27, 1927 in Parkersburg, a son of the late Samuel M. and Sarah E. (Wigal) Woodyard.
He was a 1945 graduate of Parkersburg High School and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Kermit was a member of the Sheet Metal Union #33 since 1948 and retired from Tri-State Roofing & Sheet Metal in 1989 after forty-one years. He was Baptist by faith.
He is survived by his stepson Joe Alt (Linda) of Parkersburg; grandchildren Cathy Workman (Mike) of Mooresville, N.C., Tracy Alt of West Darby, Pa., and Amy Alt of Mooresville, N.C.; sister Bernice E. Townsend of Belleville; sister-in-law Glenola Woodyard of Coolville, Ohio; nephew John Wigal of Parkersburg; and two nieces Sharon Bell of Belleville and Kathy Harrison of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Viola A. (Alt) Woodyard on Aug. 3, 1991, brother James F. Woodyard, sister Lois Eloise Shell, and a nephew Robert E. Townsend.
Services will be Saturday 2 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Pastor Tom Stewart officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be today, 4-7 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service.
