CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Wheeling Central used an 18-0 run at the start of the third quarter to beat Valley Fayette 66-27 in the girls Class A quarterfinals Wednesday.

Second-seeded Wheeling Central (22-4) advances to the semifinals for the third straight year and will play No. 3 St. Marys on Friday.

Wheeling Central led 24-22 at halftime before turning up its defensive pressure. Valley Fayette went scoreless over the first five minutes of the third quarter and trailed 50-27 entering the fourth.

Colleen McCormick and Emily Bucon led Wheeling Central with 14 points apiece. McCormick also had nine rebounds while Bucon had eight steals and eight assists. Sydney Bennington added 10 points.

St. Joseph 89, Man 29

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Mychal Johnson had 17 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds to lead top-seeded St. Joseph past Man 89-29 in the girls Class A quarterfinals Wednesday night.

Four-time defending champion St. Joseph (23-1) led 29-0 after the first quarter and 51-13 at halftime.

Johnson's assists broke the Class A tournament record of 12 set by Montcalm's Stephanie Davis in 1987. Johnson also had nine steals to fall just short of a quadruple-double.

Griffin Dempsey led St. Joseph with 27 points. Freshman Mychelle Johnson scored 16 and Asia Petitte had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Summer Sword had 13 points for eighth-seeded Man (15-11), which was in the tournament for the first time since 2008.

CLASS AAA

Morgantown 45, Martinsburg 31

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Leah Taylor scored 11 points to lead Morgantown to a 45-31 win over Martinsburg in the Class AAA quarterfinals Wednesday.

The second-seeded Mohigans (20-5) never trailed and moved on to the semifinals for the first time since 2008.

Morgantown forced 27 turnovers and made 13 steals.

Kiana Bullett scored 10 points for No. 7 Martinsburg (15-7). The Bulldogs shot 27 percent from the floor for the game and fell behind by as many as 17 points in the third quarter.

Spring Valley 84, Capital 60

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Sophomore Sarah Kelly had 20 points, 12 assists and a record 10 steals to lead Spring Valley to an 84-60 win over Capital in the girls Class AAA quarterfinals Wednesday night.

Capital led 25-24 with 3:23 left until halftime, but Spring Valley (23-3) scored 10 of the next 13 points to finish the half. The Timberwolves led 59-40 after three periods.

Madison Morris scored 12 of her 27 points in the third quarter for Spring Valley. Morris also had 15 rebounds, while Brooke Heck finished with 10 points.

Kelly's 10 steals broke the Class AAA tournament record of nine shared by four players.

FAIRMONT - A three-point second quarter pushed Ritchie County behind by a 37-15 score at the half and the visiting Rebels went on to drop a 70-40 decision to Fairmont Senior Wednesday night in a Class AA regional game at the Fairmont Armory.

Ritchie, ending its season at 18-7, trailed only 16-12 after the first period, but then tallied just three points in the second stanza to 21 for Polar Bears, who led by 22 at intermission and put the game away with a 25-13 point advantage in the third quarter.

Jessie Hilvers with 12 points, Andrew Davis with 11 and D.J. Burgess with seven led the Rebels' scoring.

Fairmont Senior was paced by Travon Horton with 28 points while Jarin Hilson added 21, with five treys.

Ritchie shot 33 percent (17-51) from the field in the game. Davis led the Rebels in rebounds (9), assists (5), steals (4) and blocks (2).
