PARKERSBURG -Parkersburg Police Department responded to the 2000 block of 16th Street for a vehicle accident Tuesday around 2 p.m., police said.
Upon investigation, officers discovered the 1997 Mitsubishi Montero involved in the accident had been stolen from 2023 1/2 16th St.
The owner of the vehicle was inside the house when people observed the vehicle start and the occupant in it begin to drive away, officials said.
The suspect in the stolen vehicle allegedly lost control of the car, drove through a privacy fence and struck an above-ground swimming pool in the rear of 2001 16th St., police said. The suspect has not been identified and fled on foot after the accident, according to police.
Damage to the property at 2001 16th St. was estimated at $3,500. Parkersburg police detectives are investigating the incident.
