PARKERSBURG - Wood County sheriff's deputies responded to St. Marys Pike in reference to a robbery around 10:45 p.m. Monday, officials said.
Charles Miller reported he heard a noise in his house, waking him up. The suspect entered the room Miller was sleeping in and began demanding the man's medicine and money, officials said.
Miller told police he was struck several times in the head and was eventually knocked over in the recliner he was sitting in.
"The suspect threatened to kill him," said Chief Law Enforcement Deputy Shawn Graham with the Wood County Sheriff's Office. "The suspect left with a wallet and detectives collected evidence."
Graham said there was no sign of forced entry into the residence. The suspect got away with a wallet, undisclosed amount of cash and medication, fleeing the scene before police arrived.
"They do have a person of interest," Graham said of the ongoing investigation.
Deputies observed blood coming from Miller's forearms and he had a knot on his forehead, officials said. Miller was transported to a hospital for the visible injuries he sustained during the attack, police said.
