Garnet Virginia Blankenship, 78, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Feb. 28, 2013, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Gideon Paul and Mabel Mae Waggoner Lyons.
Garnet was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, and was employed for over 20 years with the former Parkview Nursing Home (Eagle Pointe) as a dietician. She enjoyed reading, attending PHS football games and watching professional baseball. She was a member of 14th Avenue Gospel Mission, where she also participated in the Ladies Guild, Adults without Partners, and was a Communion Stewardess of the church.
Surviving are her daughters, Mae Ellen McCallister (John) of Desert Hot Springs, Calif., and Sherri Barton (Stephen) of Parkersburg; her stepdaughter, Jackie Walters (Steve), also of Parkersburg; her stepsons, John L. Blankenship (Sharon) of Vero Beach, Fla., Bryan Blankenship Jr. (Sherry) of Summersville, S.C., and Jim Blankenship of Vienna, W.Va.; two brothers, Argil Lyons of Marietta, Ohio, and Denzil Lyons of Vienna, W.Va.; two step-grandchildren, April McCallister and Sarah McCallister; and four step-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan "Pete" Blankenship Sr.; one son, Arnold Paul Dailey; one sister, Betty Monroe; and three brothers, Elmer Miller, Hubert Miller and Harold Lyons.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., south Parkersburg, with Pastor Tim Burch officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens, Parkersburg. The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
