Parkersburg News and Sentinel

Carole Judith (Dinsmore) Chambers died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Camden Clark Medical Center, following an eight-year battle with clear-cell cancer.

Carole was the oldest daughter of Lindsay and Marion Dinsmore. She was born in Fall River, Mass., in Nov. 1938, and moved to Parkersburg with her family in 1940. Carole was a graduate of Parkersburg HS (class of '56), and from WVU-P with a degree in nursing. She enjoyed a long nursing career in two area hospitals and one local retirement home. Despite the nursing career, her first love was music, and she initially sought a degree in music at Ohio University until her husband short circuited that plan by dragging her off to a life of drudgery raising children. She countered that setback by getting the best job of her life and a position she loved as Children's Choir Director at First United Methodist Church. Carole's marriage to Ralph spanned 55 years. Through good times and bad, it was a loving partnership that endured. She loved her family, her friends, her cats, cooking, bridge, music, gardening, extravagance, subtle humor and any place with a sandy beach adjacent to the ocean. She was loved. She will be missed.

Carole is survived by her husband of 55 years, Ralph Chambers; and four children, Michael Chambers (Rebecca) of Huntington, W.Va., Peter Chambers (Alison) of Charleston, W.Va., Karrie Ortiz (Michael) of Dallas, Texas, and Catherine Crawford (Doug) of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her one younger sister, Joyce (Dinsmore) Stevens.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. A gathering of friends will be held one hour prior to the service from noon-1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date.
