CHARLESTON - Two free throws from Jamel Morris with 8:11 to play here Friday afternoon in the West Virginia Conference tournament quarterfinals inside the Charleston Civic Center gave No. 11 seed Glenville State a 56-55 cushion, but third-seeded Alderson-Broaddus proceeded to score 13 unanswered points en route to an 82-69 victory versus the Pioneers.
After Morris' two freebies, Casey Ainslie converted a three-point play for the now 20-8 Battlers and the 13-0 run was capped by an Ali Bilal trifecta as GSC (13-16) found itself trailing 68-56 with 5:03 to go.
Kurklin Bohanon, who grabbed nine boards, hit 11 of 21 from the field and led all scorers with 29 points. Battler teammates Adam Kline and Roy Brown finished with double-doubles. Kline not only blocked four shots, but also had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Brown snagged 10 caroms and also scored a dozen points. Ainslie finished with 15 markers.

The Pioneers got a big double-double of 18 points and a game-high 13 caroms from Lamar Mallory. Kevin Gray hit four 3s and finished with 12 points while Morris scored 12 points and JJ Vazquez chipped in 11. DJ Blanks had nine points and a game-high seven assists in the setback.
Bohanon's three-point play with four seconds left in the first half allowed the Battlers to hold a 40-33 advantage at intermission.
A-B pushed the lead to eight early in the second half, but former Parkersburg Big Red all-stater Andy Dollman hit a 3-pointer to close the gap to 43-41 at the 15:49 mark.
GSC took its first lead after halftime at 47-45 on a Vazquez lay-in and prior to Morris' free throws, the G-men had a slim 54-53 advantage when Mallory stuffed one home at the 10:22 mark.
The Battlers, who shot 54 percent from the floor, finished the season 3-0 versus the Pioneers. GSC lost 105-99 in overtime at A-B and dropped a 79-70 decision last Saturday inside the Jesse R. Lilly Gymnasium.
#2 Fairmont State 77

CHARLESTON - No. 2 seed Fairmont State advanced to its first WVIAC tournament semifinal appearance since 2001 with a 77-63 victory against seventh-seeded Seton Hill on Thursday afternoon at the Charleston Civic Center.
Fairmont State advances to take on Alderson-Broaddus at 6:30 p.m. today.
Fairmont State (21-7) got stellar individual performances from Malik Stith and Isaac Thornton in the win. Stith finished with a game-high 25 points for the Falcons. Thornton was just shy of a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds (six offensive). Melvin Rhodes turned in a quality performance off the bench with 11 points and eight rebounds for FSU.
Seton Hill (16-12) was paced by Oliver McGlade's 24 points on 6 of 9 shooting from behind the arc. Malachi Leonard and Max Kenyi added nine points apiece for the Griffins. Kameron Taylor recorded a team-high seven boards for SHU.
#4 Wheeling Jesuit 72,

CHARLESTON - Justin Fritts hit 5 of 6 from downtown and led four Wheeling Jesuit players in double figures with 19 points as fourth-seeded Wheeling Jesuit ousted No. 5 Charleston, 72-62, from the WVIAC tournament.
The Golden Eagles, who ended the year at 19-9, held a 44-28 advantage on the boards, but shot just 34 percent from the floor and missed on 20 of 28 attempts from 3-point land.
Eric Siefert posted a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals, who also got 12 points from Joe Prati along with 15 markers and six assists from Ben Siefert.
UC's Xavier Humphrey tied Fritts for game-high scoring honors with 19 points. Terrell Lipkins tossed in 17 points for UC, which got 10 tallies and 13 boards from Robbie Dreher.
Wheeling Jesuit (19-9) advances to the other semifinal to take on West Liberty at 8:30 p.m. today.
#1 West Liberty 78,
#9 Pitt-Johnstown 66
CHARLESTON - Top-seeded West Liberty held off the upset bid of No. 9 seed Pitt-Johnstown late Thursday night inside the Charleston Civic Center as the Hilltoppers punched their ticket into the semifinals by posting a 78-66 victory.
UP-J, which ended its campaign at 15-13, only trailed 37-32 at intermission.
Shawn Dyer tallied a game-high 21 points for the now 28-1 Hilltoppers, who got 14 points apiece from Bubby Goodwin and Alex Falk. WLU shot less than 42 percent from the floor overall, but hit 12 of 27 (44.4 percent) from 3-point land.
Jordan Miller had a team-high 19 counters in the setback. UP-J also got 16 points and a game-high six assists from Nick Novak. Andrew Cressler finished with 15 points and Noah Hartung collected a game-high 10 boards in the setback.
Seger Bonifant and Tim Hausfeld added nine points apiece for the victors.
