Nearly five minutes elapsed before either team scored on Wednesday. By halftime, GSC managed just two 3-pointers after averaging a nation's best 14.1 per contest. Despite their offensive woes, the Pioneers stayed even with Charleston by intermission at 28-28.
Charleston began to assert itself early in the second half when Nichole Perry knocked down three of her five 3-pointers and accounted for all 11 Golden Eagle points during one stretch as GSC fell behind 44-36.
Latoya Hambrick's only bucket of the game for GSC trimmed the deficit to 46-45 at the 5:37 mark of the second half but Perry answered with another trifecta which ignited an 8-0 run and left the Pioneers trailing 54-45 with 3:19 showing on the clock.
GSC (26-3) never pulled closer than six points the rest of the way and had its 20-game win streak snapped. The Pioneers finished the game with six 3-pointers, including three by Ginny Mills, who finished with 11 points. Teammate Kenyona Simmons also scored 11 points to go with a team-high eight rebounds.
For Charleston (16-12), Perry led all scorers with 18 points, while Chrissy Keir pitched in 14 points to go with a game-high eight assists.
West Liberty 88,
Shepherd 87 (2OT)
CHARLESTON -With its two top scorers having fouled out, West Liberty turned to freshman Liz Flowers to secure an 88-87, double-overtime victory against Shepherd in a quarterfinal game in the women's bracket of the WVIAC Tournament.
With the game tied at 85 with 1:39 remaining in the second overtime, Flowers kept her dribble alive as the shot clock went into single digits. The former standout from Williamstown High School converted a left-handed layup and was fouled. Her free throw converted the three-point play and gave the Hilltoppers their largest lead since the six-minute mark in regulation.
Hillary Southworth led West Liberty (21-7) with 27 points, while former Tyler Consolidated standout Meghan Wiseman contributed 14 points. Flowers played 49 of a possible 50 minutes and finished with a career-high 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

ATHENS, Ohio - Demetrius Treadwell scored 21 points and Jake Kretzer came off the bench with a career-high 19 as Akron extended its winning streak to 19 games, the nation's longest this season, by defeating Ohio 88-81 in overtime Wednesday night.
The Zips (23-4, 13-0 Mid-American Conference) overcame a 21-3 first-half Ohio run that put them in a 34-16 hole.
Akron had a 15-0 run of its own for a 49-45 lead 6:05 into the second half, but the Bobcats (20-8, 11-2) didn't fold. Jon Smith's layup for Ohio in the final second of regulation sent it to overtime.
Kretzer, who was 4 for 4 in the second half, all 3-pointers, and 6 of 6 overall, began overtime with two free throws and Akron never looked back.
Zeke Marshall and Alex Abreu scored 16 each for Akron.
