Police receive calls about phone scam

February 26, 2013
Parkersburg News and Sentinel

PARKERSBURG - The Parkersburg Police Department received about four phone calls Monday about a scam attempt.

Residents received the scam calls from 202-621-0436, said police Sgt. Greg Collins. Officials said the caller claimed to be involved with federal grants and asked people to send money via Western Union so a larger cash reward can be received.

Victims reported the caller to have generally told them they could receive up to $7,000 for participating.

Parkersburg police said the same scam has been circulating across the country and people should discontinue the phone call immediately upon receipt.
