PARKERSBURG-It was a rough night for fans of the Edison Middle School boys basketball program as the Eagles headed into the final night of the Wood County Middle School Tournament at Memorial Fieldhouse with an opportunity to walk away with two titles.
But both were denied the Eagles as Jackson won the sixth-grade contest by a score of 43-23 while Hamilton took home the 7th-8th grade title with a 48-41 win.

Jake Johnson got things rolling for the green and white with an inside bucket just 13 seconds into the game.
Strange followed with a rebound bucket 45 seconds later to stake the Generals to a 4-0 lead.
But a lead that quickly evaporated as Edison's Seth Fallon completed a rare four-point play when he was fouled on a successful 3-point attempt and made good on the free throw with 4:32 left in the frame.
Jackson, though, would answer with a pair of triples-one each by Johnson and Dylan Shaver-and to lead by five, 13-8, after the first quarter. The Generals would continue to build on their lead in the second period, thanks to five points from Strange, and took a seven-point, 19-12, lead at intermission.
The lead continued to grow as Jackson opened the second half with a 15-2 run and never looked back in avenging its only loss of the season-a 46-45 overtime setback at home against the Eagles.
Johnson finished with eight points and Gavin Dudley added seven as the Generals finished the season with a 13-1 mark. Edison, which finished at 13-2, received eight points each from Fallon and Quentin Kennedy while Brett Hearn added five points.
7th-8th Grade Championship
Hamilton 48, Edison 41
Top-seeded Edison fell behind by eight points, 15-7, after the first quarter, but battled back to take a two-point, 32-30, lead on an Austin Sweeney lay-in off of a Shane Snider assist with two minutes left in the third quarter.
Hamilton, which finished at 13-2 on the season, bounced back to take a three-point, 35-32, lead at the horn on a triple by Rylan Hamilton and a rebound bucket by Easton Martin.
Edison (11-3) continued to fight back and pulled to within one, 37-36, on a pair of three throws by Shane Snider with 3:09 left to play in the game. Hamilton's Tyler Lawrentz made good on a three-point play 40 seconds later to push the margin back to four, 40-36, but a Sweeney deuce with 1:12 showing on the clock sliced the deficit down to just two, 40-38.
That would be as close as the Eagles would get, however, as Karson Snyder hit both ends of a 1-and-1 with 32.3 ticks left in the game and Deandre Barber made it a six-point difference 11 seconds later when he took a pass from Hamilton and scored in the paint.
Snyder then stole the ensuing inbound pass and scored an easy bucket to push the margin to eight, 46-38. A Snider triple with nine seconds left cut the margin to five, 46-41, but two free throws by Snyder ended the scoring.
Hamilton, which finished the season with a 13-2 mark, was led in scoring by Hamilton with a game-high 16 points, while Lawrentz chipped in with 10 points. Edison was paced by Brandon Hall's 13 points.
