Edward Leon Fleak, 84 years old, went home to be with his Heavenly Father, Feb. 20, 2013, in Parkersburg.
He was born in Hancock County, W.Va., a son of the late Fred and Florence (Brown) Fleak. He was a lifelong member of the First Evangelical Methodist Church on Gihon Road. He was a honoree Trustee, served on the Board of Stewards. He helped build the new EMC church, and was always willing to help on church maintenance and up keep. He loved football, NASCAR, hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He was a local farmer and loved animals. He served in the United States Army as Sergeant First Class E6, in 555 Field Artillery Battalion in the Korean Conflict. He was awarded for heroic achievement, the Bronze Star Medal (Oak-leaf cluster), and the Purple Heart Medal. He retired from O-Ames Company, Plant 1, after 40 years of service.
He is survived by his sister, Hilda Ruth Terrell of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ermie (Wilkinson) Fleak; and four sisters, Virginia Yoho, Marie Nesselroad, Norma Fleak and Alice Ann Wilkinson.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Methodist Church, with Pastor Jeff Williamson and Rev. Charles Wright officiating. Entombment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens, with military honors by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
