Robert L. Sidwell, 73, of Parkersburg, passed away Feb. 16, 2013, at Marietta Memorial Hospital following complications from an aneurysm on his heart.
Bob was born Aug. 4, 1939, in Munday, W.Va., a son of the late Della Cummings and Burke Echard.
He grew up in Parkersburg, but moved at age 16 to Cleveland, Ohio. He then joined the Army and spent three years abroad. He married in 1960 and continued living in Cleveland. He worked for General Motors and retired after 29 years.
Bob was a big sports fan and played softball for the Local 45 who won championships four years. He loved camping and spending time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing golf and horseshoes and restoring his 1938 Chevy truck. He was a very loving and giving person to all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy Sidwell, daughter, Tammy Henry, and son, Robert Sidwell Jr., all of Parkersburg; grandchildren, Jason Lorenzo and Jennifer, Joshua and Michael Sidwell; great grandchildren, Kurtis Swope, Tara and Taylor Myers and Gabriella Campbell; brothers, Thomas Boggs (Roberta), Glendon Sidwell (Dow), Bob Echard (Lisa), Raymond (Kim), Chuck Echard (Phyllis), Denver Echard (Beulah), Doyle Echard (Vicky) and Randy Echard (Shirley); sister, Shirley Ayers; aunt, Pauline Gillespie (Gail) of Parkersburg; and uncles, Frank Sidwell (Ida) of Elizabeth and Alfred Sidwell (Gay) of Parkersburg.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley French, Judy Carpenter and Sandy Echard; and brothers, James and Bill Echard.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Mark Watkins officiating. Interment will be at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
