Since the day he took office in January 2011, Gov. John Kasich has maintained a laser focus on creating jobs here in the Buckeye state. When he took office, Ohio was billions of dollars in debt and hemorrhaging jobs. Today, Ohio leads the Midwest in job creation. What a remarkable turnaround.
Kasich's new budget proposal builds on the successes of his first two years in office by continuing to focus on making Ohio a job-friendly state. One example of this is Kasich's commitment to meaningful tax reform.
Burdensome taxes can all too often serve as a barrier to job creation. The governor's proposal seeks to address this by cutting taxes for the small businesses and lowering taxes for working families that are struggling to make ends meet. Kasich's proposal also makes meaningful reforms to the state sales tax, lowering the rate while broadening the base and thereby expanding revenue.
In a time with so much political animosity, we don't often see leaders that are willing to do what is right for the people they represent. That is why we should be grateful for Kasich's approach, and provide it with the support it deserves.
