MEN

No. 22 Memphis 71, Marshall 59

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) - Adonis Thomas scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead No. 22 Memphis to its 16th straight victory, 71-59 over Marshall on Saturday night.

Joe Jackson added 12 points and Geron Johnson had 11 for the Tigers (22-3, 11-0 Conference USA).

Memphis improved to 7-0 in road games with the help of its reserves, who outscored their Marshall counterparts 19-6.

Elijah Pittman and DeAndre Kane scored 16 points apiece for Marshall (11-15, 4-7). Dennis Tinnon added 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Thundering Herd, who committed 20 turnovers and lost for the sixth time in eight games.

Ohio 78, Kent State 75 (OT)

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) - Stevie Taylor's 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining in overtime gave Ohio the lead as it defeated Kent State 78-75 Saturday for its fourth straight victory.

On Kent State's ensuing possession, Nick Kellogg deflected a pass, and the ball came to Walter Offutt, who had 17 points for the Bobcats (19-6, 10-1 Mid-American Conference). Offutt tipped it to Kellogg for a final layup with 2 seconds left.

Ohio led by 15 points, 46-31, early in the second half before the Golden Flashes (14-12, 5-7) rallied.

It was Ohio's second narrow victory over the Golden Flashes in their first season under former Kent State coach Jim Christian. The Bobcats won 69-68 on Jan. 26.

D.J. Cooper's seven assists give him 884 in his career, tied for 15th all-time with Jim Les, who played at Cleveland State and Bradley from 1981-86.

Chris Evans' 18 points and 14 rebounds led Kent State.

WOMEN

No. 16 Glenville State 104,

SHEPHERDSTOWN - Sixteenth-ranked Glenville State (22-2, 17-1 WVIAC) recieved two 20-point plus point efforts Saturday afternoon from Kenyona Simmons (24) and Ashley Fossett with (23) as the Pioneers looked to improve their seeding in the upcoming Division II NCAA women's basketball tournament with a 104-87 victory over host Shepherd.

The Pioneers rolled out to an 11-point halftime lead, thanks to 17 combined points from Simmons (7) and Fossett( 10). Shepherd was able to close the margin to two points at 41-39 with 3:52 left in the half before Glenville went on an 18-8 run to end the first half of play. Shepherd cut the margin to seven points several times in the final period, but the Pioneers had an answer each time to pull away and secure another victory.

Leading the way for Shepherd was Emily Daniel, who scored 20 points. Glenville takes to the road Monday for a game at the University of Charleston.
