PARKERSBURG - The sixth annual Youth Expo will feature 20 area agencies showing off their programs and services in addition to fun and door prizes on Monday.
The expo is scheduled for 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday at the Elite Sports Center.
Area youth, ages 5-21, and their parents can attend the free event to learn about youth programs and services. Business and youth service agencies have donated door prizes, there will be drawings throughout the day. The grand prize, a Playstation Vita Bundle, will be given away following the event. Dan McPherson of State Farm Insurance sponsored the grand prize.
"The Youth Expo provides parents and youth with an opportunity to browse various youth service programs and meet with representatives of those programs in one location," said Angela Schmidle, Wood County Family Resource Network director.
Some of the agencies that will be on hand to talk about their programs include: The Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg; S.H. Kang's Tae Kwon Do Academy; Children's Home Society; Parkersburg YMCA; Regional Educational Service Agency, District 5-Adolescent Health Initiative; Wood County 4-H/West Virginia University Extension Service; Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department; Westbrook Health Services; Youth Advantage and many more organizations that specialize in youth programming.
"The Youth Expo is packed full of fun and great resources for youth and families. It is a unique event because it brings so many different youth service agencies together in one location and gives parents and youth a chance to 'shop' for the perfect program to fit their interests," Schmidle said.
The Youth Expo is sponsored by the Wood County Family Resource Network's Youth Adolescent Council and Wood County Schools.
