Ruth Field Duggan, 95, longtime resident of Vienna, died on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at The Arbors of Marietta.
She was born Oct. 30, 1917, in Kearny, N.J., to the late Amos and Sarah Nichols Field. Ruth began her working career as secretary at DuPont Arlington Works in Kearny, N.J. After moving to West Virginia, she helped establish the Vienna Library, and was involved with Vienna recreation activities. For over 20 years, she worked at Parkersburg Community College and on to WVU-P. Ruth was an avid and accomplished bridge player. She enjoyed playing golf and was associated with the women's golf league at Worthington Golf Club. She was an avid sports fan, particularly for the Mountaineers, loved the ocean and world traveling. Ruth was a lifelong member of St. Michaels Parish in Vienna, and active in many activities related to the church.
She is survived by her four children, Kathleen (Edward) Roedersheimer of Parkersburg, Charles (Christine) Duggan of Parkersburg, Richard (Elaine) Duggan of Cranberry Twp, Pa., and Barbara (Trey) Mace of Florence, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles Edward Duggan Jr.; two sisters, Evelyn Johnston and Lois Smith; and one brother, Robert Field.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donors choice.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Vienna, with Father John Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg.
