PARKERSBURG -Parkersburg South High School Principal Tom Eschbacher has been absent from the school following surgery.
Eschbacher has been out of school since before Jan. 19, according to Sue Woodward, assistant superintendent of Wood County Schools.
"He's getting a plan and part of that treatment plan is to concentrate on getting well, rather than concentrate on getting back to school," Woodward said.
Eschbacher will be out for a while and no timetable for his return has been scheduled. Woodward said the school's four assistant principals will continue filling in for him.
"His return to work is between him and his doctor," Woodward said. "He is going to require treatment."
In 2008 Eschbacher had surgery to remove a tumor from his brain. The 5-6 inch tumor was removed after he collapsed May 16 at his office and suffered a seizure. The tumor was located near his speech center.
At the time, Eschbacher said doctors indicated the tumor was not aggressive and shouldn't require additional surgeries or treatment.
