PARKERSBURG - For those looking to refresh their homes or build a new one, the Great American Home Show kicked off Friday afternoon with close to 100 booths of home improvement or home building products.
For three decades area homeowners have been able to get ideas on what they want to do to improve their homes and find contractors who can help at the home show, which moved to the former Big Bear Plus store in Park Shopping Center five years ago.
John Farnsworth, executive director of the Home Builders Association of the Mid-Ohio Valley, said the show has grown from its early days 35 years ago. He said the crafters, added to the show last year, have almost doubled.

Part of the crowd at the annual home show at the Park Shopping Center in Parkersburg talks with home improvement dealers in one of the aisles Friday.
"It's been growing since we started in the armory on Blizzard Drive and we outgrew it a long time ago," he said. "This year I have one space available.
"I counted 97 booth spaces filled and 33 crafters are here."
Five years ago the show moved to a larger space in Park Shopping Center.
Farnsworth said just about anything needed to build or remodel a home is on display at the show.
"We have people here who either sell the merchandise or do the work to build or remodel."
Farnsworth said the home show features builders, remodelers, landscapers, heating-and-cooling experts, carpet services, fences, foundation repair, kitchen-and-bath specialists, home security, patio builders, lawn and garden equipment, pavement companies, energy-efficient windows and doors, home design, insulation products, and satellite television.
Farnsworth said the craft section has "a little bit of everything" from jewelry to food.
Farnsworth said 10 percent of admissions to this year's show will be donated to the Kyle Hockenberry home. The "smart" home is being built for the wounded Washington County veteran.
The home show will resume today from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and noon-4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults, $5 for couples and free for children.
