MEN

Ohio 69, Ball State 42

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - Walter Offutt scored 17 points, T.J. Hall added 10 and Ohio rode a dominant first half to a 69-42 victory at Ball State on Wednesday night.

Offutt was 6 of 9 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range, for the Bobcats (16-6, 7-1 Mid-American), who never trailed, led 34-14 at halftime and stretched their advantage to as many as 29 points in the second half.

Jauwan Scaife scored 18 points for the Cardinals (8-13, 2-7), but no other Ball State player had more than six points. Majok Majok, the MAC's rebounding leader at 10.4 per game entering play, had nine rebounds but scored just four points. The Cardinals shot just 26.5 percent from the field and now has lost three straight and seven of eight.

The victory was just Ohio's sixth in 24 games against Ball State in Muncie.

Tulane 91, Marshall 75

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Josh Davis recorded his 12th double-double of the season as Tulane snapped a two-game losing streak by beating Marshall 91-75 Wednesday night in a Conference USA contest.

Davis had 23 points and 12 rebounds and was supported by 19 points from Ricky Tarrant and 16 from Kendall Timmons - that duo combined to make 15 free throws in 25 attempts, with Tarrant adding nine assists for the Green Wave (15-8, 3-5).

Jordan Callahan added 12 points on 4-of-4 3-point shooting, and now has 186 3-pointers for his career, seven shy of Jerald Honeycutt for the program record.

Marshall (10-13, 3-5) dropped to 0-8 on the road this season.

DeAndre Kane had a double-double for the Thundering Herd with 14 points and 11 assists - he entered sixth in the NCAA with 7.2 assists per game. Dennis Tinnon added 13 points and 12 rebounds while Elijah Pittman had 23 points.

WOMEN

Marietta College 54, Capital 53

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Sophomore Heather Booth hit a pair of free throws and a jumper in the final 1:24 of play to give Marietta College a 54-53 win over Capital University in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball action Wednesday evening. The win snapped a 50-game losing streak against the Crusaders that dates back to the 1988-89 season.

MC (8-14 overall, 3-12 OAC) took advantage of Capital's cold shooting in the second half. The Crusaders were 11 of 33 from the floor after halftime while while the Pioneers hit 13 of 25.

The game was close the entire 40 minutes as there were 12 ties and 18 lead changes. Neither team led by more than six points. Capital held a slim 24-20 lead at halftime.

Booth led the Pioneers with 16 points. Sophomore Candice Alexander tallied a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Junior Tori Dixon chipped in with 12 points and senior Krissy Rowe added nine points.

Stacy Timmerman finished with a game-high 20 points for the Crusaders.

Northern Illinois 73, Ohio 52

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University women's basketball team fell to a hot-shooting Northern Illinois squad on Wednesday in The Convocation Center, losing 73-52 to end its two-game homestand.

Amanda Corral of NIU scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting to be one of four Huskies to score in double figures. Ashley Sneed (13 points), Natecia Augusta (12), and Alexis Lindstrom (11) also had strong games offensively. The Huskies shot an impressive 29-of-49 (59.2 percent) throughout the game including a blistering 8-for-12 (66.7 percent) from beyond the arc.

Ohio connected on 20 of 52 field goals to shoot 38.5 percent on the evening. The Bobcats hit 7 of 17 (41.2 percent) of their three-point attempts. Symone Lyles scored a team and career-high 13 points while junior guard Erin Bailes joined her in double figures by chipping in 10 points.

NIU outrebounded Ohio by a 40-17 margin and scored 40 points in the paint on Wednesday. Ohio was able to force the Huskies into 18 turnovers, scoring 21 points from those miscues.
