Ewell Simmons Greathouse, 91, of Spencer, W.Va., went to be with the Lord, Feb. 4, 2013, at Eldercare of Ripley in Ripley, W.Va.
Mr. Greathouse was born April 24, 1921, in Roane County, W.Va., a son of the late Edgar and Ninevah 'Daisy' Simmons Greathouse. He was employed by Monarch Rubber Company for over 42 years, 24 of them as plant manager. He loved farming, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church.
He is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Bernard and Barbara Greathouse of Hartville, Ohio, Fred and Peg Greathouse, Charles 'Pooch' and Beverly Greathouse, Jerry and Jerri Greathouse, all of Spencer, and Terry and Debbie Greathouse of Walton, W.Va.; one sister, Mary Jo Jarvis of Spencer; one brother, Ernest Lakin Greathouse of St. Albans, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Greathouse was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nola Mae Starcher Greathouse; and two brothers, Edward and Herman Greathouse.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Rick Perrine officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. Visiting hours are from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
