Bernard E. Hamilton, 90, of Lake Wells, Fla., formerly of New England Ridge, passed away Feb. 2, 2013.
He was born March 28, 1922, in Clarksburg, a son to the late Marvin and Floda Hamilton. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines; he then went on and retired from DuPont Washington Works after 31 years of service. He was also a lifetime member of New England Baptist Church, and loved to hunt, fish, play music and repair bicycles in his shop.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Schmidt Hamilton. He is survived by his daughter, Iris Waggoner (John) of Lake Wells, Fla.; grandsons, Greg Waggoner (Kathleen) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Steve Waggoner (Kim), Ronald Waggoner (Rebecca), and Jeffrey Waggoner (Julie), all of Frankfort, Ind.; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Hamilton (Barbara) of Sarasota, Fla.; sisters, Ruth Rathburn (Lyle) of Catawba, Va., and Lorena Walker (Stewart) of Clarksburg; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Also nephews and nieces, Joey Schmidt (Kathy) of New England Ridge, John Schmidt (Missy) of Kentucky, Kelli Makuta (Paul) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Seneca Schmidt of Wyoming, and Judy Nolan (Larry) of Marietta, Ohio.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, with veteran's rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
