Carol Aumend Leverett, departed this life on Jan. 31, 2013.

Born Aug. 20, 1930, in Shelby, Ohio, the only child of Howard Eaton and Pauline Hoover Aumend, Carol grew up in Shelby. She graduated from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio in 1952, with a bachelor's of science degree in education. At Bowling Green, she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi education honorary, Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and Panhellenic. Upon graduation, Carol married her high school sweetheart, Glen Frederick (Fred) Leverett. Over the next several years, Carol and Fred resided in Wilmington, Del., and Columbus, Ohio, as Fred embarked on his long career with DuPont and attained his PhD in Chemical Engineering at Ohio State University. During this time, Carol taught second and third grade in Wilmington as well as Upper Arlington and Sylvania, Ohio. In 1963, they settled in Vienna, W.Va., where Carol resided until moving to Glenwood Retirement Community in Marietta in 2008.

Carol lived a life dedicated to her family, friends and community. While in Vienna raising their family, Carol gave her time to a number of organizations, and enjoyed the many friendships she made through her community involvement. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, deacon and leading the Nurture and Fellowship committee for many years. The Vienna Library was very important to Carol, as she believed reading was one of life's great pleasures, and that books should be available to all, particularly young children. Carol was a member of the Vienna Library building committee and a trustee of the library board for 25 years. Carol was also a member of the Vienna Woman's Club and PEO Chapter L. Her style and grace, combined with a dry wit and directness, endeared her to those who loved her.

Carol was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Fred; and is survived by her daughter, Kyle Leverett Wilcox and her husband Whitney; her son, Kevin Leverett; and her four grandchildren, Zachary Leverett of Vienna, Amanda Leverett Thomas and her husband Patrick Thomas of Washington, D.C., and Whit Wilcox and James Wilcox, both of Darien, Ct.
