PARKERSBURG - Wednesday night inside Memorial Fieldhouse belonged to Edison as the Eagles won eight individual titles and topped the field in the 52nd annual Wood County Middle School wrestling championships.
Three-time county champion Justin Allman was joined by fellow Eagle teammate T.J. Lambiotte as the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestlers. The Eagles posted a final team score of 262, well ahead of runner-up Blennerhassett (214.5). Ripley (144), Williamstown (90) and Jackson (82.5) rounded out the top five.
Allman earned his third county title when he pinned Ripley 171-pounder B.J. Haynes in 4:21. Lambiotte tallied the first takedown of his match with 116-pounder Rocky Ford of Ripley with 50 seconds left in the third and went on to earn a 5-1 decision after getting three near fall points.
Ripley’s Hunter Burdette has the ankle of Blennerhassett’s Brett Primm during their 84-pound Wood County Middle School championship match inside Memorial Fieldhouse. Primm collected a 3-0 decision to earn his first county crown.
In the 128-pound finals, Edison's Keegan Cool finally knocked off Williamstown's Tommy Bobbitt, who handed the Eagle a 13-2 setback in last year's 116-pound finals. However, Cool wasn't going to be denied on this night as the Eagle took advantage of a slow restart by Bobbitt with eight seconds left in overtime to secure his winning takedown for the 8-6 triumph.
Bobbitt was attempting to become a two-time county champion just like Blennerhassett 123-pounder Tyler Burdette, who as the No. 2 seed fell 7-1 to top-seeded Ryan Taylor of Edison.
The Eagles' first title was claimed by 110-pounder Jarrett Flinn, who was awarded the winning takedown with narrowly a second left in overtime as he doubled up Blennerhassett's Drew Dunbar, 4-2.

Edison also received an upset victory at 190 when No. 2 seed Garrett Wolfe outlasted Ripley No. 1 seed Anthony Jarvis in double overtime. Wolfe led 7-6 after he escaped in his 30-second extra time period and then clinched the 10-6 win after turning Jarvis for three back points.
The Eagles' other two triumphs came thanks to Hunter Delong at 135 and Nick McCutcheon at 145, both via mat slappers. McCutcheon had the fastest finals pin as he stuck Jackson's Nathan Knotts in 35 seconds. Delong pinned Josh Mason of Ritchie County in 2:58.
Blennerhassett teammates Luke Martin and Zach Collins each became two-time county champions. Martin opened the finals in the 78-pound class with a 4-0 shutout of Edison's Tucker Windland. Collins also didn't allow a point in his 3-0 victory versus Edison's Qwentin Dunn, who only trailed 1-0 before his Bobcat opponent got the only takedown with 47 seconds remaining in the match.
The Bobcats finished with four individual champions. Brett Primm stood atop the podium as the 84-pounder winner after he got three near fall points in the third period for a 3-0 victory versus Ripley's Hunter Burdette. Fourth-seeded Bobcat 155-pounder Ethan Fetzner led No. 2 seed Chance Morgan of Ripley 8-0 before settling for an 11-4 decision.
Ripley, Wirt County and Ravenswood were the only other programs to crown champions.
Viking 90-pounder Jacob Starkey doubled up Landon Flinn of Blennerhassett, 4-2. Tiger Hunter Moore had the first pin of the finals as he used 2:29 to defeat Jackson's Stephen Carder in the 95-pound finals. Red Devil Corey Wratchford earned his heavyweight title by getting a takedown 25 seconds into overtime to pull off a 5-3 win against Williamstown's Jake Seckman.
Tim Haddox of Williamstown was honored as the Buddy James coach of the year while the Dr. Jim Mendenhall official of the year award went to Tim Shaw Jr.
