Emil Dean Holbert

Emil D. Holbert, 74, of Rockport, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Rockport, Jan. 3, 1939, a son of Elizabeth (Hale) Holbert of Rockport and the late Earl Holbert. Emil took pride in being a member of Local Labor 1085 in Parkersburg for 56 years. He constantly spoke of his work and numerous building and construction projects around the Parkersburg area. He worked for Grimm Construction Company for 35 years up to his retirement. Having a construction background, he donated many hours of time building and helping friends, family and many area organizations. He was a member of the Jr. OUAM Rockport Council. He twice had won the Paul Bunyan Award from 84 Lumber. He was an avid sportsman, including numerous trips out West elk hunting, and many trips to Canada fishing and hunting bear and moose. He spent a lot of time in Bergoo, in the mountains of West Virginia, trout fishing with friends and family. He enjoyed spending time with his close friends, family and his loyal beagle dog, Prince.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 21 years, Norma J. (Bailey) Holbert; sons, Steven Holbert, Rodney Holbert (Mary), Kevin Holbert and Douglas Holbert, all of Mineral Wells; step-sons, Bill Baxter (Linda) of St. Marys, and Todd Baxter (Buffy) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Korie, Nicholas, Kyle, Hanna, Aaron, Colt, Kasey, Tiffany and Easton Holbert, Brandon, Devin and Bailey Baxter; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Carol, Paul, Harold and Chester Holbert; sisters, Nina Mae Smith and Juanita Buckbee.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Randy Kochersperger officiating. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be at the Rockport-Big Tygart Cemetery.
