Lillian “Tilly” Shaffer

Lillian E. "Tilly" (Mellinger) Shaffer, 92, resided in Columbus, Ohio and was formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

She was born Feb. 20, 1920, a daughter of the late David A. and Clara M. Mellinger.

She retired from Franklin County MRDD after 18 years as an instructor and worked seven years at Westerville High School as a cafeteria worker.

She served as a Girl Scout leader for five years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and taking care of her children and grandchildren. She was Methodist by faith.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years Carl E. Shaffer; daughter Ellen R. Porter, sons Harry H. Porter (Kathy) and William A. Porter (Frances); loving grandkids Christopher R. Porter (Brenda) and Kelly L. Porter; great grandkids Dalton G. Porter and Lilly C. Porter and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday Jan. 28, at the Leavitt Funeral Home Parkersburg, with Rev. L. Norman Butler officiating. Burial will be at the Herndon Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-6 p.m.
