MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Ohio State lost the battle on the boards 44-29 and host Minnesota grabbed 22 offensive rebounds en route to 19 second-chance points here Thursday night inside Williams Arena as the Golden Gophers topped Ohio State, 83-74.

Buckeye Tayler Hill shared game-high scoring honors with UM's Rachel Banham as they scored 24 points apiece.

Ohio State, now 10-6 overall and 0-3 in Big Ten play, trailed 50-31 at halftime.

The two squads combined to miss 24 of 27 shots from 3-point land.

Akron 81, Ohio 54

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University women's basketball team (5-8, 0-1 MAC) dropped an 81-54 decision to the University of Akron (10-4, 1-0 MAC) in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams Thursday night in the Convocation Center.

Ohio led 16-15 with 11:59 to go in the first half, but Akron used a 31-6 run to close the half and built a 46-22 lead it would not relinquish.

Junior guard Erin Bailes paced the 'Cats with 10 points while senior forward Tina Fisher just missed a double-double with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Mariah Byard dished out five assists and added six points in 28 minutes of action.

Hanna Luburgh scored a game-high 21 points for Akron, which also got 18 points from Rachel Tecca and 14 more from former Waterford Wildcat standout Sina King. Tecca grabbed 10 boards for the game's lone double-double.

Glenville State 100

Davis & Elkins 92

GLENVILLE - Despite shooting nearly 49 percent from the field and holding a plus-10 rebound advantage, visiting Davis & Elkins didn't have quite enough here Thursday night as Glenville State held on for a 100-92 victory.

Ginny Mills hit 12 of 19 from the floor, including 6 of 11 from downtown, to lead all scorers with 31 points in the victory. GSC, now 12-2 overall and 7-1 in the WVIAC, also received double figure scoring efforts from Kenyona Simmons (15), Ashleigh Fossett (14) and Kenyell Goodson (10).

The Senators (5-9, 4-4) only trailed 46-44 at halftime and were led by Maquasia Ferebee's 19 points along with Amy Turner's double-double of 10 points and 10 boards. Page Turner tallied 16 markers and Alicia Lentz chipped in 14.

Pioneer point guard Jelena Elez finished with six points and a game-high eight assists while teammate LaToya Hambrick had seven counters and six caroms.

GSC, which returns to action Monday at Alderson-Broaddus, also got a game-high five steals from Mills.

COLLEGE MEN

Glenville State 106,

Davis & Elkins 87

GLENVILLE - Host Glenville State got back to the .500 mark in West Virginia Conference action at 4-4 here Thursday night as the Pioneers routed Davis & Elkins, 106-87.

Jamel Morris canned 14 of 21 field goals en route to notching a game-high 33 points.

D&E (3-8, 2-6) had the game tied early at 2, 11, 13 and 15, but Pioneer Joe Ballard's dunk via a Lamont Cole assist put GSC (8-5) ahead for good.

Kevin Gray tossed in 18 points, Ballard finished with a baker's dozen and Lamar Mallory had 13 markers and seven boards in the win.

The Senators had four players reach double digits in scoring, led by Devin Miller's 19-point evening.

Former Parkersburg Big Red Andy Dollman chipped in seven points for GSC, which received eight tallies and seven assists from DJ Blanks.
