Maj. (Ret) Clarence E. Campbell, 83, of Parkersburg, passed away on Jan. 6, 2013, at his residence, under the loving care of his family and Hospice.
Clarence was born in Wood County, W.Va., on Feb. 27, 1929, a son of the late Monterville and Lillie Ward Campbell. Clarence graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1947, and began his Army career in 1948. His first overseas assignment was with the 803rd Engineer Aviation Battalion in England. He also served in Vietnam, Germany, Korea and several U.S. installations. He completed his military service at Fort Benjamin in Harrison, Ind., with over 31 years of service. In retirement, he enjoyed military history, especially of the 803rd Engineer Aviation Battalion.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 57 years, Juanita Dilly Campbell; children, Paul Edwin Campbell (Martha) of Colonial Heights, Va., Patricia Lynn Campbell Hanna (Jay) of Milford, Conn., Lee Ann Campbell of Vienna, W.Va. and Gary Ward Campbell of Waynesboro, Va.; grandchildren, Scott Campbell (Misia), Brian Campbell, Diana Campbell, Joseph Hanna, Christopher Hanna, Ethan Hanna and Rebecca Campbell; great-granddaughter, Anya Campbell; brother, Glen Campbell; sisters, Bernice McClelland and Edna Wise; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Ray Campbell; and sister, Audra Wise.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Danny McVey officiating. Full military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #15. Visitation will be 6-8 today, and for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
