BECKLEY -What a night for Parkersburg High basketball!

The Big Reds took a 1-6 record to Beckley to face powerhouse Woodrow Wilson and stunned the Flying Eagles, 65-57.

Parkersburg led 41-40 after three quarters and pulled away over the final eight minutes.

Trevor Britton connected on nine field goals -including a pair of treys -and made eight of 10 free throws to finish with a game-high 28 points. Braeden Cabbil added 10 for PHS (2-6).

Woodrow Wilson (4-2) got 25 points from Dante Nabors and 16 from Chase Hancock.

PHS rallied from double digits down in the junior varsity game to score a 43-42 win as JD Wade scored 15 and Jordan Colebank 12.

The Big Reds will entertain Spring Valley on Tuesday.

Paden City 56, St. John Central 40

PADEN CITY - Zach Heasley helped the Paden City Wildcats up their record to 8-2 Saturday night by contributing a double-double of 11 points and 10 boards as the hosts knocked off St. John Central, 56-40..

Kennedy Cain scored 19 points as Paden City never looked back after building a 37-23 halftime lead. Paden City will look to add another win and continue an impressive season Tuesday night when the Wildcats play host to Bishop Donahue.

DJ Shoemaker scored 13 points to lead St. John Central (3-7).

River 79, Magnolia 68

NEW MARTINSVILLE -Visiting River made 15 3-point field goals here Saturday night and rode the 40-point performance of Brett Price to hand Magnolia its first loss of the season, 79-68.

Magnolia (6-1) led 54-51 heading into the final eight minutes, when River outscored the Blue Eagles, 28-14,

Mark Winters led Magnolia with 24 points while Zach Willhoite had Magnolia will entertain Linsly in a game set for Monday night.

Fort Frye 59, Waterford 35

BEVERLY - Fort Frye outscored visiting Waterford 34-15 in the middle two quarters here Saturday evening as the Cadets rolled to a 59-35 victory against the Wildcats.

Austin Shriver pumped in a game-high 21 points for the Wildcats, who dropped to 4-3 and plays Tuesday at Eastern.

Fort Frye, now 4-5 with a home contest slated for Tuesday against Frontier, was paced by Seth Lagraen with 20 points and Jordan Anderson with a dozen.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Parkersburg South 78,

John Marshall 61

GLEN DALE - Visiting Parkersburg South outpointed No. 5 John Marshall in every quarter Saturday en route to a 78-61 upset of the now 9-2 Monarchs in a Class AAA girls basketball game.

The victorious Patriots, now 5-3, were led by freshman point guard Taryn McCutcheon with 24 points and sophomore Keya Bartlett with 23, while Kasey Williams contributed 17 points to the impressive win.

Bartlett hit five treys and McCutcheon three for South, which hosts No. 3 Morgantown at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

South corralled 39 rebounds, paced by Williams with 10 and Carlie Wilson with eight. McCutcheon led with 10 assists and four steals.

St. Marys 71, Ravenswood 58

ST. MARYS - The Blue Devils stayed undefeated here Saturday night as host St. Marys toppled Ravenswood, 71-58.

St. Marys (9-0) got a 15-point night from Audra Clark and three other double-digit efforts from MiKaela Britton (13), Kendra Walker (13) and Abbi Fetty (12). Walker added 12 rebounds.

Taylor Youell led the Red Devils (6-5) with 23 points.

JACKSON, Ohio -Visiting Warren outgoaled Jackson, 16-13, here Saturday night but the Ironmen connected on 23 of 36 free throw attempts to take a 51-44 victory over the Warriors.

Jackson (10-0) was led by Madison Ribout with 17 points while Lydia Poe added 13. Warren (5-5) got 10 points from Jordanna Rauch.

The Warriors travel to Eastern on Wednesday.

Bellaire St. John 65, Paden City 36

PADEN CITY - Bellaire St. John placed five players in double figures, which included getting a game-high 13 points from Marissa Rose, as the visitors rolled to a 65-36 win here Saturday at Paden City.

The Wildcats, now 5-5 with a home affair slated for Tuesday versus Bishop Donahue, received seven points apiece from Logan Cosper and Kayla Hizer.

PHS sweeps University quad

MORGANTOWN - Fourth-ranked Parkersburg High swept a quad at University Saturday by defeating Brooke 54-9, No. 7 University 38-17 and East Fairmont 57-23.

Going 3-0 for the Big Red matmen on the day were Austin Spears at 106 pounds, Nick Johnson at 113, Joey Butcher at 120, Jason West at 126, Skylar Terrell at 138, Codie Barrows at 145, Dylan Richards at 160, Jared Haught at 182 and Tyler Riddle at 220.

PHS is next in action at Parkersburg South at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Magnolia wins

Cameron Tournament

CAMERON - Magnolia finished with a 170 team points and received individual championships from Garrett Woofter (160), Jared Wright (195) and Tyler Barker (220) here Saturday as the Blue Eagles topped Clay-Battelle's runner-up effort of 153 to win the Cameron Tri-State Tournament.

The Blue Eagles got runner-up efforts from 126-pounder Joseph Layman and 170-pounder Joey Kelly. MHS, which returns to the mat at 6 p.m. Thursday when Linsly visits, had third place showings from Doug Ritter (113), Jacob Rabel (182) and heavyweight Alex Newman.

Belpre fourth at Logan Elm

LOGAN, Ohio - Belpre finished with 233 points here Saturday at the Logan Elm Invitational and took fourth overall as a team.

Manney Tullius at 132, Derek Davis at 170 and 182-pounder Tyler Martin each posted runner-up efforts for the Golden Eagles.

Belpre 106-pounder Gavin Stalnaker was joined by teammate Jamie Barrett (195) in placing third.

South finishes 11th

NELSONVILLE, Ohio - Parkersburg South finished in 11th place and had only six varsity wrestlers compete at the Nelsonville-York Invitational here Saturday.

Dylan Alexander was the lone champion, winning the 138-pound crown. Patriots Braidon Knotts (120) and Chip Sturek (152) finished as runners-up and Matt Dixon was third at 195.
