Clarence "Woody" Martin of Parkersburg passed away Dec. 31, 2012, peacefully at his home with his family by his side. The family is comforted knowing he is out of pain now as he enters Heaven's gate. Waiting there with open arms to greet him is his grandson, Matthew Fielder, his three sisters, and his parents.
Woody was born Feb. 11, 1935 in the South Charleston area where he was raised and lived until 1965 when he and his family moved to Parkersburg.
Woody was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Those that are sadly going to miss him every day are his loving wife of almost 60 years, Donis (Donnie) Martin, who has been his main caregiver; his children, Rhonda (Clint) Way, Terri Fielder, and Greg (Becky) Martin; grandchildren, Chris (Angela) Way, Amy (Jeremiah) Colgrove, Emily Martin, Brooks Martin, and his princess, Meghan Handley who has been his personal nurse until the end; his great-grandchildren, Cali, Dominic, and Ella Way, and Isaac, Addison, and Jadyn Colgrove.
In addition, surviving are two brothers, Gene (Charlotte) Martin of Nitro, W.Va., and Larry Martin of St. Albans, W.Va.; and many nieces and nephews.
Woody worked at GE Plastics (formerly Borg Warner) for 26 years and retired in 1991. He spent his retirement days spending time with and lovingly spoiling his children and grandchildren. He was always involved in every family home project and also was at every event, cheering on his grandchildren.
Woody was a member and board member of Sand Hill United Methodist Church, where he was involved in various activities and functions.
The family wishes to thank Tammy Wilson, who assisted in his caregiving this past year. The family also wishes to say a special thanks to Amedisys Hospice for all their assistance and support during such a difficult time. We will always remember your kindness. We would also like to thank Pastor Lauren who was always there for us.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St., Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Lauren Godwin officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be today, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests that donations be made in Woody's memory either to Sand Hill United Methodist Church, 1295 River Road, Williamstown, W.Va. 26187 or to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011, or at alz.org.
