PARKERSBURG - A 68-year-old Elizabeth man lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole on Rayon Drive Monday afternoon.
Parkersburg police Lt. Scott Morgan said Richard Davis was driving a 2003 Subaru and was "at fault" but not cited for failure to maintain control. Davis split the pole, causing it to hang by only wires after his vehicle went off the street at 1 p.m.
Davis was traveling westbound in the 1400 block of Rayon Drive when he drove off the road, struck the pole and "sheared it off," Morgan said.

Parkersburg Police and Fire department units block Rayon Drive between 14th and 15th avenues Monday afternoon after a utility pole was struck and destroyed.
"He suffered minor injuries but was not transported," Morgan said of Davis. "At this time (about two hours after the accident) the power company is there replacing the utility pole."
Morgan said electricity was not interrupted by the accident, but traffic was being rerouted to side streets. Motorists on Rayon Drive Monday afternoon were being directed by the Parkersburg Fire Department Engine 5 onto 15th Avenue to avoid the 1400 block.
