VIENNA - Mayor Randy Rapp has big plans in the making for the city of Vienna in 2013.
Rapp said two big projects for the city will be the community's emergency response plan and a new sewer plant. He said he hopes to break ground on the plant in the next several months.
"I'm still a new mayor," Rapp said Monday. "It's a learning curve."
Rapp said the disaster plan will be a top priority. Continuing to develop and set the plan in place will be key in helping the city be more prepared for disasters, he said.
"These things are already in the works," he said of the plans. "Council has been involved in the process. We just need to get ready to implement these things."
He is working with the community to develop safety zones for citizens. The utility board has been involved throughout the process and engineering designs, he said. The groundbreaking for the sewer plant project should be in a few months, he said.
"The two projects are well on their way," said Rapp. "For six or eight months of the year, they will be big projects for the city."
A new face to the council, Steve Stephens, said he was looking forward to going in and "learning the ropes" with the seasoned city council members.
"I would like to get more involved with the budget process and the utility board," he said. "Understanding the process and trying to improve the infrastructure of the city is important."
The main priority for the new mayor will be continuing the development of the city, he said as he thought of his new seat as the head official in the city of Vienna this year.
Roger Bibbee, Jim Miracle, Bruce Rogers and Paul Thornton were re-elected to council, while Cathy Smith took Rapp's place as city recorder.
