Opal Heintzman Northrop, 95, of St. Marys, W.Va., passed away Dec. 29, 2012, at Camden Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus, Parkersburg, W.Va.

She was born Sept. 11, 1917, in Sistersville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Arch and Ethel Woodburn Heintzman.

She was a member of St. Marys Presbyterian Church, and a graduate of Sistersville High School. In her early years, she worked at Paden City Pottery, the St. Marys Telephone Company and G.C. Murphy Co. She was retired from Pleasants County Board of Education. She was associated with the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, United Presbyterian Women, the former Pemberton Garden Club and St. Marys Chapter 31 Order of the Eastern Star. She had held various offices in these organizations. She loved to travel extensively, play golf and play bridge.

She is survived by a brother, Arch E. (Evon) Heintzman of Middlebourne, W.Va.; a sister-in-law, Katy Heintzman of Sistersville, W.Va.; nieces and nephews, Ann Heintzman Laing, Alisa Heintzman DeStefano, Joe Heintzman, Tom Heintzman, Rick Northrop, J.B. Northrop, Bob Northrop and Tom Weber; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman E. Northrop; and a brother, Warren G. Heintzman.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Marys IOOF Cemetery, with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va.
