The Parkersburg High School crew is about to embark on its 51st season of spring rowing.
The Big Reds watched as 10 seniors graduated from last year's roster, but veteran coaches Bub and Suzie Fulton have several returning members upon which to build a nucleus for the 2013 season.
Parkersburg got off to a head start by participating in the fall crew season, and was able to develop the skills of several prominent freshmen.
Anyone interested in joining the crew is asked to attend an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, on the second floor of the Mary Lou Hague Arts and Sports Complex, located adjacent to Stadium Field.
Winter conditioning -a mandatory part of the crew program -will be conducted at the complex from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The PHS?crew has a tentative schedule that includes an indoor Erg competition conducted at Marietta College, a triangular match and the Lindamood Cup on the Muskingum River at Marietta, and trips to the Clemson Sprints Regatta in Clemson, S.C.; the Dillon Regatta on Dillon Lake in Zanesville, Ohio; the Hebda Cup Regatta on the Detroit River in Wyandotte, Mich., and the Midwest Regional Scholastic Rowing Championship, which will require a return trip to Zanesville.
The Fultons will be assisted by Marilyn Moses.
