CUMBERLAND, Md. - Slow out of the gate from 3-point range, Parkersburg South caught fire and finished with 14 field goals from beyond the arc in an 87-57 win against Fort Hill (Md.) on the first night of the Sentinel Classic Thursday.

The Patriots (4-1) made one 3-pointer while building a 14-10 lead after the end of the opening period then made at least four in each of the three remaining quarters. For the game, South converted 14-of-24 (58.3 percent) from outside the arc.

Six different South players accounted for at least one trey with Doug Dennis leading the list with six as part of a game-high 23 points. Teammate Tyler Bolen added a career-high 16 points to go with a team-high eight assists, while Wes Mitchem pitched in 11 points.

NEW MARTINSVILLE - Magnolia led 28-8 after one and received a game-high 36 points from Mark Winters on Thursday night as the Blue Eagles improved to 5-0 following a 95-50 victory versus visiting Tyler Consolidated.

The Blue Eagles, who play at 7:15 p.m. today inside Parkersburg's Memorial Fieldhouse versus Dayton's Chaminade Julienne Catholic, also had double figure scoring nights from Preston Boswell (15) and Stephen Rogalski (12).

TCHS, now 3-5, was led by Dylan Romine's 17 points. Silver Knight Scott Sole added a dozen.

Buffalo 67,

Williamstown 42

ELIZABETH - Buffalo bolted out for 40 first-half points and defeated Williamstown 67-42 in the first round of Thursday's Wirt County Holiday Tournament.

A total of four players scored in double figures for Buffalo, including Isaiah Robinson with 15 points and Levi Jordan with 13 points.

Gage Wix, who accounted for seven of Williamstown's first eight points, was the team's lone player scoring in double figures after finishing with 13.

Roane County 104,

Wirt County 79

ELIZABETH - Roane County jumped out to a 32-17 lead after the first eight minutes here Thursday evening and rolled to a 104-79 victory against host Wirt County in the semifinals of the Tigers' own holiday tournament.

The Raiders, led by Tyler Harper's 30-point effort, will play Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. today in the championship game.

Roane County (5-1) also received 11 points apiece from J.C. Nichols and Jacob Neal while Brad Beichard and Elijah Onwuka tossed in 10 points each..

Wirt County, set to face Williamstown at 6 p.m. in the consolation tilt, received 22 points from both Austin McVey and Kalob Bell. Tiger Mark Cunningham, playing his first game of the season, tossed in 11 counters.

Herbert Hoover 54, Ravenswood 36

RAVENSWOOD - Ravenswood got off to a slow start Thursday night and never recovered as the host Red Devils dropped to 1-3 after suffering a 54-36 setback to visiting Herbert Hoover (3-1).

Cody Morris (16) and Aaron Burdette (12) paced the scoring attack for Herbert Hoover, which led 29-18 at half and outscored the hosts 21-4 in the third quarter.

Jake Martin's game-high 20 points weren't enough for the Red Devils, who play at St. Marys on Saturday night.

Jacob Barr added nine points in the setback while Issac Crown pulled down 15 rebounds. Martin contributed five caroms and had six steals.

Ripley 69,

Lewis County 64

WESTON - Lewis County was outscored 27-16 in the fourth quarter on Thursday by visiting Ripley as the Vikings pulled out a 69-64 triumph in the Lewis County Holiday Classic.

Kade Harrison went off for 28 points and teammate Casy Smith finished with 20 to lead the Vikings, who improved to 2-3 and takes on Elkins at 5:45 p.m. today.

John Riley led Lewis County (3-2) with 21 points.

Herbert Hoover 56,

Roane County 37

SPENCER - Jordan Marshall canned a quartet of 3s and tallied a game-high 15 points here Thursday night as Herbert Hoover improved to 6-1 following a 56-37 road win at Roane County.

The 1-7 Raiders, who were led by Kipra Rhodes' 13 points, welcome Wirt County to town this evening.

Sissonville 54, Ravenswood 44

RIPLEY - Sissonville's Madison Jones scored a game-high 19 points and the Indians held Ravenswood to just 16 second-half points during a 54-44 victory here Thursday evening in the Rod Hudson Memorial Tournament at Ripley High School.

Ravenswood, which led 15-9 after one and 28-26 at halftime, received 14 points from Taylor Youell and a baker's dozen from Taylor Treadway.

Karli Pinkerton chipped in 10 points for the Indians.

Magnolia 70,

Tyler Consolidated 67

NEW MARTINSVILLE - New head coach Mark Blair won his season debut for host Magnolia as the Blue Eagles nipped visiting Tyler Consolidated, 70-67, here Thursday.

Mallory Chapman posted a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds for the Blue Eagles, who improved to 4-4 and plays next Thursday at Wheeling Central.

Tyler Consolidated had a quartet of players score in double figures - Torrye Cline (22), Sydney Reed (17), Sophia Kinnard (11) and Allison Wable (11).
