The magic of Christmas can sometimes be hard to see in the weeks leading up to it. Especially this year when less than two weeks ago, a young man with a mental issue killed his mother and then walked into a Newtown, Conn., elementary school and systematically slaughtered 26 people, including 20 kindergarteners. This heart-sickening violence touched everyone, and thoughts of Christmas were certainly put aside.
However, on this morning -the most wondrous morning of the year, we hope, finally we are able to give way to the peace, joy and love of the Christmas season.
How to allow this joy to shine through is a difficult thing to do these days. As we are seemingly pushed into a more secular society, the meaning of Christmas - the birth of the Christ child - has been all but removed from the day. Even the word "Christmas" has been watered down into a generic celebration of "the holidays." But the true spirit can still be there if we are just willing to let it in. Remember, this season only comes once a year. Please try to slow down today and enjoy the peace and joy of Christmas.
