Wood County office passes review

Parkersburg News and Sentinel

PARKERSBURG - The Property Valuation Training and Procedures Commission has reviewed the Wood County Assessors' Office and found it to be in compliance with all required standards.

Each year the commission reviews the progress of assessors' offices throughout the state to check compliance with standards established by the PVC. The county monitoring reports for tax year 2011 were earlier reviewed by the commission. The PVC reports the local office was in compliant with all areas reviewed.

The monitoring report includes a review of the quality of data collection in meeting acceptable standards; procedures used by the office to develop land tables, neighborhoods, and modifiers to maintain current market value appraisal standards; entry and validation of sales data; procedures to achieve appraisal uniformity between sold and unsold properties, and appraisal of real property on schedule according to the timetable provided in the county valuation plan.

"You and your office personnel are to be congratulated. On behalf of the members of the PVC, I wish to compliment you on a job well done," Jeff Amburgery, PVT commission chairman, wrote the assessor in a notification letter.

"It's a testament to the staff and the job they do," Assessor Rich Shaffer said of the report.
